First Oil change

Picked up a 2024 Subaru Outback a couple of weeks ago and I'm already thinking about doing the first oil change early. The manual says to stick to the normal schedule, but I'm not sure if Subaru uses any sort of special break in oil that's meant to stay in for the first 5,000 miles, or if there's any other reason I should wait.

I've always been in the habit of doing an early change on new vehicles just for peace of mind, but this is my first Subaru, so I'm not sure if that's actually beneficial or just me being overcautious.

Subaru doesnt require an early 'break-in' oil change, their engines are built to go the normal interval right from the start and modern oils handle new engine wear well. Changing it early wont hurt, but it's mostly for peace of mind rather than necessity, so sticking to the recommended schedule is perfectly fine

I've done early oil changes on new Subarus too, peace of mind is valid, but they're built to run the first 5k on factory fill. Early change isn't harmful, just mostly for reassurance.

Modern Subarus don't really use special break-in oils anymore, so you're not missing anything by following the manual. Early changes won't hurt either if you want the peace of mind.
