My brother and I just added a 2" lift to his 2020 Subaru Outback XT here in central Oregon. We do gravel and mild offroad trails near Prineville and want to size up the tires without rubbing on full lock. I've heard 245/65R17 fits but hoping to go wider if possible. Anyone running upgraded shocks that pair well with the lift?

For most folks with a 2-inch lift, 245/65R17 tires are the biggest you can go without trouble. If you want wider tires, you might need to trim things or get different wheels. For better support, give Bilstein B6 or Ironman Foam Cell shocks a look

Yeah, I agree with @OutbackSnack, 255s may rub, at least they do for many people. There's the option to play with the offset and get everything tuned well, but that's a lot more work and you'll need a new set of wheels.
This confirms what we were thinking about the tire limitations. Sticking with the 245/65R17 is the practical path to avoid rubbing and the extra mod work. We'll look into the Bilstein B6 and Ironman options for the shocks. Between the Bilstein and Ironman shocks, does one offer a noticeably better ride on the washboard roads common out here? We're planning to order the parts in the next couple of weeks, so any final input is welcome.
